The Sacraments

Sacramental Life

The school and parish work closely together to bring children preparing to receive the Sacraments of Reconcilation, Holy Communion and Confirmation closer to God.

Our Confirmation children had been preparing to receive this Sacrament of commitment throughout Year 6. Fr. Julain came to visit frequenty and has worked with the children on the meaning of the Sacrament and the inspiration of the Saints. These children were due to receive the Sacrament on Sunday, 29th March; however, due to the Coronavirus pandemic, this important Mass was unfortunately postponed. We will be in touch with parents and families once we have an indication on when we may be able to reschedule.

First Confessions

On 11th December, after months of preparation in school and within the parish, our Year 4 children received God's grace in a lovely penitential service followed by their First Confessions. Those children are now preparing to receive the next Sacrament of their faith journey, where they will receive Jesus in the Eucharist.

First Holy Communion

The school and parish have been working together with our collegiate partner school St John's, to prepare our Year 4 children to receive the Sacrament of Holy Communion. We follow the sacramental programme, 'I want to make my home in you', which is a thorough, visual catechetical course designed to deepen understanding of Reconciliation and the Eucharist for both the children preparing to receive these very special sacraments and also their parents who attend along with their children several times per month. The sessions are jointly run by Fr. Julian, school staff, governors and parish catechists in a collaborative, planned program to ensure that our children are thoroughly prepared to enter into their special relationship with Jesus through the Holy Eucharist.

As with Confirmation, preparations for First Holy Communion are currently on hold due to the ongoing pandemic. We will write to parents once we have any indication of when we may be able to celebrate this important event in our children's faith journey.
