The Sacraments

Sacramental Life

The school and parish work closely together to bring children preparing to receive the Sacraments of Reconcilation, Holy Communion and Confirmation closer to God.

Reconciliation

Year Three children who are baptised Catholics, receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) in Year Three.  We follow the sacramental programme, 'I want to make my home in you', which is a thorough, visual catechetical course designed to deepen understanding of Reconciliation for the children preparing to receive this very special sacraments.  Sessions take place in school, outside of the school day and are led by school staff.  The sessions are supplemented by activities for children and families to complete together at home.

First Holy Communion

Year Four children who have received the Sacrament of Reconciliation, receive the Sacrament of First Holy Communion in Year Four. We follow the sacramental programme, 'I want to make my home in you', which is a thorough, visual catechetical course designed to deepen understanding of the Eucharist for  the children preparing to receive this very special sacrament.  Sessions take place in school, outside of the school day and are led by school staff.  The sessions are supplemented by activities for children and families to complete together at home.   This ensures that our children are thoroughly prepared to enter into their special relationship with Jesus through the Holy Eucharist.

Confirmation

Each year, children in Year Six who have received the Sacrament of First Holy Communion, receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.  Confirmation preparation is carried out during the school day by Mr Hewitt and supplemented with visits from Fr Julian.

Receiving Sacraments at other times

Sometimes, children do not wish to prepare for and receive sacraments at the times outlined above.  Baptised Catholic children in Year Four, Year Five and Year Six are welcome and encouraged to join the programme in a later year if they have missed sacraments previously.  Children who are not baptised Catholics but wish to receive the sacraments are warmly welcomed and encouraged to do so; families will need to contact Fr Julian to discuss the best way to do this.  Details of his open house can be found on the parish newsletter https://ourladyofgraceparish.org/
