Design and Technology
At St Joseph's, we believe that Design and Technology allows our children to become creative critical thinker and problem solvers; we see this as a fundamental part of school life. Children become confident and self-motivated to work independently and as part of a team. Our Design and Technology Curriculum has been carefully planned to ensure each pupil is taught the necessary skills, concepts and knowledge to develop technical and practical competencies.
Through a broad and balanced curriculum, we ensure pupils are offered stimulating opportunities to develop their imagination and creativity through visual, tactile and sensory experiences. The aim is for children to learn about the function of design and to make thoughtful judgments and practical decisions. Pupils become proficient in the design process, gain knowledge of designers and understand the historical and cultural development of their designs. Additionally, children record, evaluate and analyse their creative work throughout the unit of work,
We intend to deliver the National Curriculum in an engaging and exciting way which provide children with opportunities to investigate, explore and develop ideas and evaluate and develop their skills using a range of materials and media and, most importantly a develop a love for problem solving creatively. Children are enthused and prepared to be designers, engineers and innovators of the future.
